This is a coracoid bone from an American White Pelican. As the name implies, these birds are mostly white with black primary and outer secondary feathers. Unlike the closely related Brown Pelican, these piscivorous birds do not dive into water to catch prey but rather skim the water surface during the day and at dusk. In California, American White Pelicans have a status of special concern.
